New Delhi, November 26 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on citizens to shun marriages abroad and instead hold wedding celebrations in India, as part of the Central government’s ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative. Speaking during his monthly radio broadcast ‘Mann Ki Baat’, PM Modi emphasized the importance of supporting products made in India during wedding shopping. He highlighted that organizing weddings within the country would not only keep the money in India but also provide opportunities for the poor to render service. The Prime Minister urged the nation to reflect on the mission of ‘Vocal for Local’ and consider holding wedding ceremonies domestically.

As the wedding season kicks off, trade organizations have estimated a potential business of around Rs 5 lakh crore during this period. PM Modi’s appeal for prioritizing Indian-made products aligns with the government’s efforts to promote local businesses and boost the economy. By choosing domestic goods during wedding shopping, individuals contribute to the growth and development of local industries.

Addressing the audience, PM Modi questioned the need for families to arrange weddings outside of India, highlighting the benefits of celebrating such events on native soil. Holding weddings within the country would allow the nation to retain its money and stimulate economic activity. Additionally, organizing weddings domestically enables fellow citizens to participate in the celebrations and provide various services, thus fostering a sense of unity and promoting local talent.

Switching gears, PM Modi acknowledged the societal shift towards digital payments, with an increasing number of people embracing cashless transactions. He noted that the trend of purchasing goods through cash payments during Diwali has declined for the second consecutive year. This change highlights the growing reliance on digital payment options, reflecting the nation’s move toward a more technologically advanced and digitally integrated economy.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister commemorated the 15th anniversary of the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai, honoring the memory of the victims. He highlighted the resilience and collective strength of the country, which allowed for the recovery and subsequent firm stance against terrorism. PM Modi acknowledged the fear brought by the terrorists from Pakistan but praised the indomitable spirit of the Indian people, who stood together to overcome the ordeal.

On the occasion of Constitution Day, PM Modi addressed the unfortunate limitations placed on freedom of speech and expression during the country’s early years. While previous governments made amendments to the Constitution according to the changing needs of the nation, the first amendment curtailed these vital democratic rights. However, through subsequent amendments, particularly the 44th amendment, the wrongs committed during the Emergency period were rectified.

In his radio address, PM Modi expressed his concern and appealed for a stronger emphasis on upholding the freedom of speech and expression enshrined in the Constitution. The Prime Minister highlighted the significance of protecting these fundamental rights, which form the cornerstone of a vibrant democracy. By acknowledging the past flaws and reinforcing the importance of free expression, PM Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to preserving democratic values.

As the nation navigates the wedding season, PM Modi’s call to hold weddings in India aligns with the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative, urging citizens to support domestic products. By choosing products made in India, individuals contribute towards the growth of local industries and the overall development of the nation. Additionally, organizing weddings domestically ensures that the country’s money remains within its borders while providing opportunities for fellow citizens to render services, promoting unity and fostering local talent.
