Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a five-point proposal to increase collaboration between India and the US in the field of research and education in an official press release from the Prime Minister’s Office. The proposal includes adopting an integrated approach with the government, industry, and academia, exchanging teachers and students, organising hackathons, recognising vocational skills qualifications and encouraging visits from people associated with education and research.
During his state visit to the US, Prime Minister Modi attended a private dinner with US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden at the White House. He also visited the National Science Foundation in Virginia with the First Lady, where they attended the Skilling for Future event. The event focused on workforce redevelopment across higher education institutions and expanding access to quality education across societies.
At the Skilling for Future event, PM Modi emphasised the need to nurture a pipeline of talent to sustain growth momentum between India and the US. He highlighted the ongoing bilateral academic exchanges and collaborations between Indian and US academic and research ecosystems.
The First Lady expressed that education is the cornerstone of the bond between India and the US, as students from both countries learn and grow alongside each other. Working side by side, their nations can create a safer, healthier, and more prosperous future for everyone.
To maintain growth momentum, India and the US need a pipeline of talent. On the one hand, the US has top-class educational institutions and advanced technologies. On the other hand, India has the world’s biggest youth factory. That is why the India-US partnership will prove to be the engine of sustainable and inclusive global growth, said PM Modi at the event.
The Prime Minister’s participation in this special engagement reaffirms the warm friendship between the two countries, according to an official statement by the Ministry of External Affairs.
