In a commendable move, the Municipal Corporation of Dewas in Madhya Pradesh has taken steps to encourage tree conservation among the general public. This was highlighted during a public hearing led by Dewas Mayor Geeta Durgesh Agarwal. The Mayor received an application from Rukmani Raghuvanshi who along with a plot owner, requested the relocation of a tamarind tree within the plot’s boundary. It was heartening to note that Rukmani pledged to bear the expenses incurred in the process of shifting the tree elsewhere.
Mayor Agarwal instructed the concerned department officers to address the applications promptly, emphasizing the importance of swift action. The gardening department in-charge, Dinesh Chauhan, was instructed to ensure the successful relocation of the tamarind tree.
The public hearing witnessed other applicants voice their concerns. Social workers Ramkishan Banjare and RB Bhai Patel requested for the maintenance of Ambedkar Bhavan, which the Mayor quickly directed the corporation’s Public Works Department officer to address. Councillor Bhupesh Thakur of Ward No.28 mentioned the cleaning of Baklen and large drains within the ward to the Mayor, which prompted Mayor Agarwal to instruct health officer Jitendra Sisodia to prepare an immediate plan for the cleaning of those drains.
The presence of various individuals, including the Corporation Traffic and Transport Department committee chairman Mustafa Ansar Ahmed Hathi Wale and other councillors, highlighted the importance of the public hearing. The Municipal Corporation of Dewas has taken several initiatives towards environmental protection, which has positively impacted the general public, encouraging them towards the preservation of trees, and the environment in general.
