Pitt Police Collaborate with City Authorities on Campus Crimes
Pittsburgh, PA – The University of Pittsburgh Police Department has been working closely with city authorities to address a series of harassment, robbery, and assault cases that have occurred on and around the university campus. The joint efforts aim to enhance the safety and security of students, faculty, and residents in the area.
On Friday, September 15, the Pitt police responded to reports of harassment on the 4000 block of Fifth Avenue. In a proactive approach, they issued an arrest warrant at Maggie & Stella’s and a citation for underage drinking at Nordenberg Hall. Additionally, campus security authorities reported a liquor law violation at Bates Street and the Boulevard of the Allies, resulting in a conduct referral.
The following day, Saturday, September 16, campus security authorities reported another liquor law violation, this time at Sutherland Hall. Pitt police provided assistance to city police in handling a robbery and aggravated assault case on Oakland Avenue. Furthermore, they worked alongside city police to address a theft/loss of a wallet incident on the 3900 block of Forbes Avenue. Another liquor law violation occurred, leading to a conduct referral.
On Sunday, September 17, the Pitt police arrested an individual for strangulation and harassment at Sutherland Hall. In addition, they issued a citation for underage drinking and carrying a false identification at Forbes Hall Pavilion. Campus security authorities reported liquor law violations at Litchfield Tower A, Lothrop Hall, and Litchfield Tower C, respectively. As the day continued, the Pitt police issued a citation for violating a city ordinance regarding an open container.
Monday, September 18, witnessed the arrest of an individual for criminal trespass, defiant trespass, and terroristic threats at Forbes Hall Pavilion. Campus security reported a fondling incident on the 3900 block of Forbes Avenue, while the Pitt police investigated the theft of a bicycle at Benedum Hall. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, September 19, the Pitt police reported the theft of a weed whacker at Sennott Street and Oakland Street, as well as the theft of Apple AirPods. They also collaborated with city police to locate a male with an active warrant and assisted with a possible burglary on the 3100 block of Terrace Street.
As these incidents unfold, it is crucial for both the Pitt police and city authorities to maintain a strong collaborative effort in combating crime on and around the university campus.
