Thousands of pilgrims are arriving daily in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for the annual Hajj pilgrimage. This year sees more pilgrims than last year due to Covid-19 restrictions being lifted. Airport authorities have said that security measures have been heightened to ensure the safety of the pilgrims, with preparations made before their arrival to guarantee a smooth immigration process. The pilgrims will then be guided to their assigned buses and taken to Makkah where they will perform Umrah. Saudi Arabia has set its largest ever operational plan for Hajj this year, with 22,000 people, including 8,000 volunteers, working to ensure the safety and ease of pilgrims from around the world. Jeddah airport authorities have put in place a team of customs and security officers, including women, to manage the higher number of passengers arriving in the kingdom. The Bus Guidance Centre for Pilgrims in Makkah has arranged over 4,000 buses to carry more than 248,000 pilgrims. The centre will provide trained guides and GPS-enabled tablets to track the arrival of pilgrims and their journey to Makkah.
