PepsiCo has recently announced the six selected startups for the second cohort of its Greenhouse Accelerator Program: MENA Sustainability Edition, which will focus on sustainable agriculture. The program aims to unlock disruptive agricultural solutions by collaborating with regional startups that share PepsiCo’s vision for a more sustainable food system. This year’s cohort was selected based on five key criteria namely alignment to PepsiCo Positive (pep+), strategic synergy with PepsiCo, scalability, relevance to MENA, and breakthrough potential. More than 180 applications from the MENA region were received, and six startups were chosen to participate in the program. Each of the selected startups will receive an initial grant of $20,000 to support and scale up their innovation, accompanied by guided mentorship from regional subject matter professionals, as well as PepsiCo and Food Tech Valley experts. The winning startup will receive an additional $100,000 in funding to continue its expansion goals, and an opportunity to extend its collaboration with PepsiCo to further expedite its growth. H.E. Eng. Mohammed Mousa Alameeri, Assistant Undersecretary for the Food Diversity Sector at the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), expressed the UAE’s commitment to utilizing modern agricultural technology to increase and improve production and promote sustainable agriculture. Aamer Sheikh, CEO, Middle East – PepsiCo, shared his views on how the selected startups could pave the way for innovative solutions within sustainable agriculture. The theme of this year’s Greenhouse Accelerator Program aligns with the UAE’s National Food Security Strategy 2051 that positions the country as a world-leading hub in innovation-driven food security. Food Tech Valley, which aims to facilitate business growth in food tech space, expressed its support for this worthwhile initiative that harnesses the power of innovation for a more sustainable future.
