Pender County Man Brutally Attacked After Confronting Trespassing Hunters

A Pender County man recently found himself in a terrifying situation when he confronted trespassing hunters on his property. Chris Jordan, who leases land near the Holly Shelter Game Land for hunting, shared his harrowing experience after being brutally attacked over the weekend. The incident unfolded when Jordan discovered a group of around a dozen hunters using dogs to hunt deer in the game land.

The dogs chased the deer onto Jordan’s property, and the hunters followed suit, firing their shots. Realizing that these individuals were trespassing, Jordan’s nephew approached them to inform them that shooting on private property is prohibited. However, instead of heeding the warning, the hunters became hostile and agitated, prompting Jordan’s nephew to call for backup.

Upon arriving at the scene, Jordan positioned his truck to block the driveway, determined to get to the bottom of the situation. As he approached one of the hunters, demanding an explanation for their trespassing, Jordan was met with a threatening response. One of the hunters asserted that they would move his truck forcefully if he didn’t comply. Unwilling to back down until the matter was resolved, Jordan stood his ground, refusing to move the vehicle.

In a shocking turn of events, the hunters then proceeded to surround Jordan and launched a violent attack. The one behind me hit me and the one in front hit me at the same time, Jordan recounted. The one behind me grabbed me and held my arms while the ones in front started hitting me. I just put my head down until I broke free. After managing to break away, Jordan hastily returned to his truck and immediately dialed 911 for assistance.

Meanwhile, the group of hunters hastily fled the scene in their trucks, leaving Jordan alone and injured with fractured bones in his face. His hope now is that these individuals will face consequences for their actions, and he believes that hunting on game lands should be regarded as a privilege rather than a right. Jordan advocates for stricter regulations and sanctions imposed by the state, emphasizing that those interested in hunting should do so on their own private property.

As the investigation unfolds, Chase and Zachary Cockman have already been charged with trespassing and assault, while Joseph Williamson faces a trespassing charge. Authorities from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and the Pender County Sheriff’s Office are conducting further inquiries, and additional charges may be brought against other individuals involved.

Jordan expressed his gratitude for the assistance and support he has received from game wardens and deputies during this trying time. He appreciates their commitment to the investigation and hopes that justice will be served. This incident serves as a reminder of the need for proper respect of private property rights and adherence to hunting regulations, ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals like Chris Jordan.
