Edo PDP Vows to Block Federal Roads Until Repairs are Made, Citing Neglect by the Federal Government

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a strong stance against the neglect of federal roads in the state by the federal government. The party’s chairman, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, announced during a campaign rally in Benin that they would block all entrances into the state roads from federal government roads until necessary actions are taken to reconstruct and rehabilitate them.

Dr. Aziegbemi expressed his disappointment at the deplorable conditions of the federal government roads in the state, which he believes are a manifestation of the federal government’s animosity towards the state governor. He highlighted the impact of these poor road conditions on motorists, who are forced to spend hours on the roads due to the lack of alternatives. Consequently, many drivers resort to using state roads, causing further deterioration.

The chairman called attention to specific examples of the deteriorating roads, such as the Ebele-Uromi road, where hundreds of trailers were stranded due to bad spots. He also mentioned the Sobe-Oluku Benin road, where a trailer accident resulted in significant delays, and the Benin-Auchi road near the university of Ekpoma, which has been neglected. Dr. Aziegbemi questioned why the federal government would display such apparent wickedness towards the people of Edo state, questioning what they had done to deserve this treatment.

Edo state serves as a vital transport hub for the country, making the maintenance of its roads even more crucial. The chairman emphasized the negative ramifications of the federal government’s negligence, including wasted man-hours, poor sanitation conditions on the roads, and perishable goods getting damaged. He voiced concerns about the well-being of individuals who have been stranded on these roads for extended periods, raising questions about their access to basic sanitary facilities and provisions.

Dr. Aziegbemi firmly asserted that the federal government, under the leadership of the APC, has intentionally neglected these roads to punish the people of Edo state. In response, the Edo PDP has decided to take action by blocking entrances into the state roads from federal government roads until the necessary measures are undertaken to reconstruct and rehabilitate the federal roads in the state. They aim to protect the state roads, funded by Edo taxpayers, from the additional strain caused by trucks diverting due to the non-motorable federal roads.

Expressing gratitude for the patience shown by the people of Edo state, Dr. Aziegbemi assured them that the state government would continue to prioritize their interests and diligently maintain all state roads. While the challenges posed by the federal government’s neglect are significant, the chairman remained optimistic that the state government, under Governor Godwin Obaseki, would work tirelessly to improve the road infrastructure and make life easier for its citizens.

As the Edo PDP takes a bold stand against the federal government’s neglect of the state’s roads, it remains to be seen how this move will influence the necessary actions to address the deplorable conditions. With both state and federal roads playing a crucial role in the transportation of goods and people, there is a pressing need for cooperation and swift action to ensure safe and efficient travel throughout Edo state.
