NCP chief Sharad Pawar expressed concern over Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s recent visit to Pandharpur in Maharashtra, during which he arrived with a huge motorcade of 600 cars. Pawar criticized Rao’s attempt to show strength and hold a rally, stating that it was worrisome.
Rao had visited the famous Vitthal-Rukmini temple at Pandharpur on Monday, followed by a rally at Sarkoli village, some 20 km away, on Tuesday. This was part of his Bharat Rashtra Samithi’s (BRS) efforts to expand its base.
Pawar’s concerns were regarding the size of the motorcade and the rally, which he perceived as an attempt to flex power. Such a display of strength could potentially create unrest and instability, Pawar said.
While Rao was within his rights to visit the temple and hold a rally, the sheer scale of the motorcade and rally was unnecessary, according to Pawar. He stressed the need for political leaders to exercise restraint and avoid creating unnecessary tension.
The visit by Rao has also sparked widespread discussion and debate on social media, with many people expressing disappointment and anger over the display of power. Some have suggested that the focus should have been on the temple visit and the spiritual significance it holds, rather than the political rally.
Overall, the visit by Rao has reignited debate on the appropriate use of motorcades and the need for political leaders to exercise restraint. It is important for leaders to prioritize their role as public servants and focus on fulfilling the needs of their constituents rather than holding grandiose displays of power.
