The district administration of Patna has issued an order to shut down all academic institutions till June 18, owing to an ongoing heat wave. The District Magistrate of Patna, Chandra Shekhar Singh, has written a letter stating that hot and humid temperatures could pose a risk to children. Under the CrPC of section 144, the administration has prohibited all academic activities in private and government schools till class 8th, Anganwadi, and Pre-school. However, since most schools are already closed for summer vacations, the impact of this order is expected to be minimal.

Sources report that the temperature in Patna has been hovering above 44 degrees Celsius in the last few days. The meteorological department has predicted this weather to persist for the next one week. District officials have expressed concern over the adverse effects of the heat wave on children’s health. As a result, the district administration has taken the necessary measures to safeguard children from the potential risks. The monsoon season is expected to arrive in Bihar by June 20, offering much-needed relief to the locals.

The district administration has urged parents and guardians to ensure that children stay indoors and avoid venturing out in the hot sun. They have also warned against leaving children or animals unattended in parked vehicles, as the temperature inside the car could rise dangerously high in no time. Patna locals are advised to stay hydrated and consume fluids at regular intervals.

It is advisable to take precautionary measures, especially during the scorching summer months. Experts recommend staying out of the sun during peak hours and wearing light, breathable clothing. Commuting in air-conditioned vehicles and staying in air-conditioned accommodation can also mitigate the intensity of the heat wave. We urge readers to prioritize their health and safety during this challenging period.
