Patna’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has been ranked 27th in the National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF-2023), making it the only medical institute from Bihar to make the list. The rankings were released by the Ministry of Education on June 5, according to a statement from the executive director of AIIMS Patna, Dr Gopal Krushna Pal. With a score of 57.30, the institute ranked above many other well-known medical colleges in the country, including AIIMS Bhopal, AIIMS Raipur, and Lady Hardinge Medical College.

Dr Pal called the ranking an outstanding achievement, given that the institute was not selected among the best 50 medical colleges in previous years despite participating in the NIRF ranking. He further stated that the institute will strive to improve its ranking and aim to be among the top 10 medical institutions in the country.

Over the last year, AIIMS Patna has focused on a range of recruitment efforts to improve its faculty and resident doctors, non-faculty staff, and nursing personnel. These efforts have led to improvements in patient management facilities, including a rise in the number of patient footfall in the outpatient and inpatient departments. The institute’s research activities, patient-care management, and publications have also increased in recent years.

The NIRF ranking evaluated institutions on five broad parameters including teaching, learning, and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach, and inclusivity and perception. Dr Pal noted that the institute had made efforts to improve learning and student development programs, including improving hostel facilities and academic and learning amenities. The institute has also worked on supporting timely examinations at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The AIIMS Patna ranking demonstrates its growth and development in recent years, and its commitment to improving the quality of healthcare and education in Bihar and India. The institute’s focus on patient care and research will likely drive continued success and advancement in the years to come.
