Indore’s public transport system is suffering from serious safety concerns and poor maintenance, according to commuters who rely on the city’s I-bus and city bus services. Passengers are reporting overcrowding, ineffective air conditioning systems, and incidents of reckless driving. Women in particular are calling for equal distribution of seats on buses.
Commuters have also reported that I-buses are running infrequently at night, making it difficult to get home safely. Persistent issues with overcrowding make bus travel uncomfortable, especially on long commutes. Passengers using the CHALO app for bus timing also expressed frustration with its inaccuracy, leading them to miss buses multiple times.
City buses are also facing criticism for their dilapidated state, with broken mirrors and exposed engines. An AICTSL bus recently broke down, leaving passengers stranded in the middle of their journey.
In response to complaints, the CEO of AICTSL urged passengers to submit issues in written format so that they may be addressed, and reassured commuters that all issues would be investigated and resolved if deemed valid.
Public transportation serves as the backbone of the city’s infrastructure, and improved bus services would be a positive step towards a safer and more reliable public transportation system.
