Social organization Parvati Mitra Mandal in Madhya Pradesh (MP) has sent a memorandum to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, urging caution to be exercised before digging borewells. The group submitted a similar memorandum to collector Anup Kumar Singh during a public hearing on Tuesday. The organization’s social activist Sunil Jain emphasized that many toddlers have lost their lives after falling into open wells and borewells across the country. Recently, a two-and-a-half-year-old girl named Shristi fell into a 300-feet open borewell in Sehore and died while being rescued by the NDRF, Army, and a special robot.
Jain expressed concerns about the matter and demanded that the CM and the collector issue guidelines for citizens to follow before digging borewells in their homes or farms. The group suggested that the diameter of the borewell should not be more than six inches and that the casing in each bore should be at least four to five feet above ground level. A large number of members from the social organization were present.
To prevent fatalities like those that have occurred in the country, social groups are now pushing for stronger regulations and guidelines for the safe digging of borewells. The government is expected to release these guidelines in the near future. However, until these regulations are enforced, citizens are urged to follow the suggestions put forth by social organizations like Parvati Mitra Mandal.
