Pantomime legend Billy Pearce and the cast of Cinderella have brought some theatrical magic to a children’s ward. The stars of the beloved pantomime made a special visit to young patients at Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI), taking a break from their performances at the Alhambra Theatre. The visit, organized by Bradford Hospitals Charity, has become an annual tradition, spreading joy and laughter to children in need.

During the visit, Billy Pearce, who portrays Buttons in the production, was joined by other members of the cast, including Samantha Giles, known for her role as the Wicked Stepmother in Emmerdale. John Whaite, celebrity baker and Strictly Come Dancing finalist, also made an appearance as Dandini. The cast distributed gifts donated by the Alhambra Theatre’s team, brightening the children’s day and bringing smiles to their faces.

It’s always a privilege to take a break from shows to come along to Bradford Royal Infirmary to visit the children. To see the smiles on their faces is the best medicine for everyone! expressed Billy Pearce.

Lisa Williams, the head of fundraising at Bradford Hospitals Charity, expressed gratitude to the panto cast, saying, It was a wonderful visit which created lots of smiles on the day, and the children and their parents really enjoyed chatting with them all and admiring their wonderful costumes.

Wards 12, 30, and 32 were the primary destinations for the Cinderella cast during their visit. Ward 12, the hospital’s children’s day-case unit, cares for children undergoing day surgery, blood transfusions, and various tests and procedures. Ward 30 is designated for both emergency and planned admissions, providing care for children and young people with a range of conditions. Ward 32 receives referrals from GPs, midwives, community nursing teams, and Emergency Departments, catering to the needs of children in the local community.

Sharon Milner, Director of Bradford Hospitals Charity, shared her appreciation for the cast’s visit, noting it as an annual tradition that everyone looks forward to. It’s lovely to see the magic of pantomime brought to the hospital. The Alhambra is very generous in bringing gifts for the children too, she said.

The visit touched the hearts of both the children and their families, providing a welcome escape from the hospital environment. Billy Pearce and the entire cast of Cinderella demonstrated their dedication to bringing joy and happiness to those who need it most.
