AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has strongly criticized the ruling Congress in Karnataka and the DMK in Tamil Nadu for their handling of the controversial Mekedatu reservoir issue. Palaniswami accused Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin of being a puppet CM for failing to vehemently oppose Karnataka Deputy CM D K Shivakumar’s plans to construct the reservoir on the Cauvery River.

Tamil Nadu has consistently opposed the construction of the Mekedatu dam, fearing it will have a negative impact on the state. The government also maintains that its consent is required for the project to proceed.

In a scathing attack, Palaniswami lambasted the DMK-led government for not taking a strong stance against Karnataka’s plans. He expressed disappointment that the Tamil Nadu government had not put up a robust resistance and had allowed the neighboring state to proceed with its intentions.

The contentious issue of the Mekedatu reservoir has been a point of contention between the two states for several years. Tamil Nadu insists that any project on the Cauvery River should be jointly agreed upon and should not be implemented without its consent. However, Karnataka has been pushing ahead with its plans, causing further tensions between the two regions.

Palaniswami’s criticism comes at a crucial time when Tamil Nadu is in dire need of safeguarding its interests in the ongoing dispute. His strong words against the ruling Congress in Karnataka and the DMK in Tamil Nadu reflect the growing frustration within the AIADMK over the lack of action taken by the state government.

The tension between the states has also raised concerns about the overall management of interstate river disputes and the need for effective communication and cooperation between the concerned parties.

The issue of the Mekedatu reservoir is a matter of great significance for the people of Tamil Nadu, as it could potentially impact the availability of water resources. It is only natural that the state government should take every possible measure to safeguard its interests and ensure the best outcome for its residents.

While it is imperative to consider the perspectives and opinions of all stakeholders involved, the primary focus should always be on protecting the rights and well-being of the people. Palaniswami’s criticism serves as a reminder to the Tamil Nadu government to stand its ground and fight for the interests of its people in the ongoing dispute over the construction of the reservoir.

It remains to be seen how the Tamil Nadu government will respond to the strong words from Palaniswami and whether it will take a more proactive approach in protecting the state’s interests. For now, the issue of the Mekedatu reservoir remains a contentious one, with both sides locked in a battle for control and the potential consequences for Tamil Nadu hanging in the balance.
