Pakistani Police Arrest Influential Member of Pirs of Ranipur for Alleged Torture and Murder of 10-Year-Old Maid
The Khairpur Police of Sindh province in Pakistan have apprehended Pir Asad Shah Jeelani, a prominent member of the influential Pirs of Ranipur, for his alleged involvement in the brutal torture and subsequent death of his 10-year-old maid, Fatima Furiro.
The shocking incident, which came to light through viral video clips circulating on social media, has sparked outrage across the nation. Netizens were horrified by the sight of a young girl bearing visible signs of torture, leading to further investigations.
Local communities and people from all walks of life have united in their condemnation of the Pirs of Ranipur following this horrendous crime that claimed the life of an innocent child.
The initial exposure occurred when a video depicting Furiro’s lifeless body, displaying extensive torture marks, surfaced online. The distressing footage showed the severely injured girl struggling to maintain her position on the bed before eventually collapsing.
Fatima Furiro hailed from the village of Ali Muhammad Tharro, Khanawahan, near Mehrabpur, District Nausharoferoz, and belonged to a family who were followers of the Pir of Ranipur.
Prompted by the video’s circulation on social media, Sukkur Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Javed Soonharo Jiskani instructed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shikarpur Rohal Khan Khoso and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohammad Nauman Zaffar to initiate an investigation.
Consequently, Khoso and Zaffar visited Ali Muhammad Furiro’s village to record statements from the child’s parents. Initially, the parents were hesitant to come forward and make a statement against the influential Pir, attributing their daughter’s death to illness. However, they ultimately agreed to disclose the truth and reported the influential family.
Shabana, Furiro’s mother, revealed that her minor daughter and two other siblings were employed as domestic helpers by Pir Niaz Shah of Ranipur. Furiro had been assigned to work at the Haveli of Pir Asad Shah, where she tragically met her demise.
During an interaction with the media, Shabana disclosed that her young daughter had suffered unimaginable torture at the hands of the Pirs of Ranipur for several days, ultimately succumbing to multiple injuries.
Following the registration of a First Information Report (FIR), Pir Asad Shah was promptly detained by the Ranipur Police. The FIR was filed under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), based on the complaint filed by the child’s grieving mother.
The arrest of such an influential figure has sent shockwaves throughout the country, demonstrating that justice will be pursued regardless of social standing or power. Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies are steadfast in their commitment to upholding the rule of law, particularly in cases as heinous as this, where a vulnerable child suffered a tragic fate at the hands of those entrusted with her care.
