Pakistan Rejects Indian SC’s Verdict on Occupied Kashmir
Pakistan has firmly rejected the judgment declared by the Supreme Court of India regarding the status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani conveyed Pakistan’s strong stance during a press conference held in Islamabad. Jilani stated that the judicial validation of India’s unilateral and illegal actions of August 5, 2019, is a blatant injustice, supported by distorted historical and legal arguments.
Jilani asserted that India cannot dismiss its international responsibilities under the guise of domestic legislation and judicial verdicts. He emphasized that India’s plans to annex the region are destined to fail. According to the Foreign Minister, the verdict of India’s Supreme Court neglects the internationally acknowledged disputed nature of the Jammu and Kashmir conflict. Furthermore, it fails to address the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, who have already rejected India’s illegal and unilateral actions.
The ruling demonstrates the submissive nature of India’s judiciary under its ruling regime. Jilani affirmed that the restoration of statehood, the conduct of State Assembly elections, or any similar measures cannot serve as a substitute for granting the right to self-determination to the Kashmiri people. He emphasized that the judgment should not divert the international community’s attention from the severe and systematic human rights abuses taking place in occupied Kashmir.
Jilani expressed serious concern over India’s unilateral and illegal measures since August 5, 2019, which aim to manipulate the demographic composition and political landscape of the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. These measures flagrantly violate international law and relevant UN Security Council Resolutions, particularly Resolution 122 of 1957. Pakistan finds these actions deeply troubling as their ultimate objective is to disempower the Kashmiri people in their own land. Jilani emphasized that these measures must be revoked to establish an environment conducive to peace and dialogue.
Pakistan remains committed to fully supporting the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir in their quest for their inherent right to self-determination. The country will continue to extend its political, diplomatic, and moral support to the oppressed Kashmiris.
