UK energy provider OVO has partnered with Vaillant to offer homeowners with a Vaillant heat pump a discounted electricity rate. The new tariff, called Heat Pump Plus, offers customers a rate of 15p/kWh, which will result in an average annual saving of £495.00 for heat pump users.
The decision to introduce this tariff comes in response to customer demand, with nearly 8 in 10 consumers citing running costs as a major obstacle to heat pump adoption. In fact, 85% of consumers claimed they would switch to a heat pump if it was more affordable to run.
Under OVO’s scheme, customers with a Vaillant AroTHERM or AroTHERM plus air source heat pump connected to the internet can access the special rate. The deal also provides separate rates for heat pump usage and regular household energy consumption.
OVO’s chief commercial officer, Mat Moakes, expressed concern about the low adoption rate of heat pumps in the UK compared to Europe. He believes that innovative tariffs, like the Heat Pump Plus deal, combined with government initiatives, such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, could encourage more homeowners to embrace heat pump technology.
By offering a lower electricity rate specifically for heat pump users, OVO aims to address the financial barrier associated with these energy-efficient systems. The company hopes that this initiative will promote the wider adoption of heat pumps, reducing carbon emissions and household energy bills.
