A staggering number of 17,615 individuals have been arrested for attempting to perform the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia without a proper permit, according to a recent report by the Saudi Gazette. Lt. Gen. Muhammad Al Bassami, Director of Public Security and Chairman of the Hajj Security Committee, revealed that among those arrested, 9,509 people had violated labor, residency, and border security regulations.
The security authorities also uncovered 105 fraudulent Hajj campaigns operating in various regions of the Kingdom. Those responsible for these fraudulent campaigns have been arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution. The Saudi authorities have been cracking down on such scams to protect unsuspecting individuals hoping to embark on the sacred pilgrimage.
Furthermore, the security forces sent back a total of 202,695 individuals who did not possess a Hajj permit at the entry points to Makkah. Additionally, 128,999 vehicles that were not licensed to enter Makkah and the holy sites were also turned away. Addressing another concerning issue, Al Bassami stated that 33 individuals who were transporting pilgrims without a valid Hajj permit were arrested and referred to the seasonal administrative committees under the General Directorate of Passports for appropriate actions.
