Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that more than 1.30 crore families in the state will receive pure drinking water under the Jal Jeevan Mission. According to the chief minister, before the start of the mission, only 5.16 lakh families had access to pure drinking water from the tap. However, due to continuous efforts, over 1.30 crore families can now enjoy clean drinking water.

As part of a grand campaign, called ‘Har Ghar Nal-Har Ghar Jal’, the mission aims to provide pure drinking water to 2.65 crore rural families in the state. The chief minister reviewed the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission and the Namami Gange project in a high-level meeting and called for intensified efforts to provide tap water to every household while giving necessary guidelines.

The Jal Jeevan Mission aims to provide clean drinking water to every citizen of the state, and the prime minister has set a target of March 2024 for its completion. The success of national schemes like the Jal Jeevan Mission, which makes life easier for the common man, depends on the performance of Uttar Pradesh. The chief minister emphasized the need for transparency in the verification process and the importance of on-site inspections.

The Jal Jeevan Mission has also prioritized the improvement of water quality in affected areas due to arsenic, fluoride, salinity, nitrate, and iron. In this regard, additional financial assistance is being provided by the Government of India. The chief minister has called for more efforts to be made in all districts and emphasized the importance of rainwater harvesting in villages.

Special attention is being given to the Bundelkhand and Vindhya regions, where pure drinking water was once merely a dream. Mahoba is set to become the first district in the state where every house will have a tap water facility. CM Yogi called for the target of providing tap water connections to every house in Jhansi, Lalitpur, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Banda, Chitrakoot, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, and the whole of the Vindhya-Bundelkhand region to be achieved in the next two months.
