More than 100 individuals have been apprehended in connection with violent activities targeting Christians and churches in Faisalabad, Pakistan, according to the provincial government’s spokesperson. Reports indicate that several churches were vandalized and set on fire in the Jaranwala district of Faisalabad following allegations of blasphemy. The Punjab interim government has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident, stating that the violence was a result of a premeditated conspiracy. Meanwhile, Christian leaders have accused the police of remaining silent spectators during the attacks. Minorities in Pakistan have faced persecution and targeted attacks in recent years, leading to a significant decline in their population. Human Rights Focus, Pakistan President Naveed Walter noted that the percentage of minorities in the country has fallen from 23% at its independence in 1947 to just 3% today. The situation in Faisalabad is now under control, with a large number of law enforcement officers deployed to maintain security in the affected areas.
