More than 1.8 million pilgrims from 150 countries gathered in Saudi Arabia for the Hajj, according to the Kingdom’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. Speaking at a press conference, the Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah announced that the transportation of pilgrims from Mina had been successful and all had arrived at Arafat by 10 a.m. He expressed his gratitude to the Kingdom’s leadership for providing excellent services to visitors and the efforts of more than 40 government agencies and private sector firms.

The ministry had prepared for the Hajj at the end of the previous year’s event by setting up a task management center to coordinate with all participating agencies. This enabled the transportation process to be smooth and easy for pilgrims. Al-Rabiah noted that the ministry had expanded the use of smart cards to assist pilgrims in finding their camps and accessing services. The use of technology has been an invaluable tool for pilgrims during the Hajj, providing better services and enriching their experience.

The number of pilgrims this year exceeded last year’s Hajj, despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The Saudi government had taken measures to ensure the safety of pilgrims, including limiting the number of pilgrims and requiring all participants to be fully vaccinated. These precautions along with technological advancements have enabled the Hajj to take place successfully.

The Hajj is a significant event for Muslims, as it is one of the five pillars of Islam. It provides a time for worshippers to come together in unity, renew their devotion to Allah, and ask for forgiveness. The pilgrimage to Mecca is a unique experience, with pilgrims of different backgrounds and cultures coming together to perform religious rituals.

The Saudi government has invested heavily in infrastructure for the Hajj, including expanding the Grand Mosque and improving transportation facilities, to ensure the event runs smoothly. The country also benefits economically from the Hajj, with pilgrims spending money on accommodation, transportation, and food while visiting Saudi Arabia.

Overall, the successful completion of this year’s Hajj despite the challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic is a testament to the Kingdom’s commitment to making the event a success. The Hajj continues to be an important event for Muslims and a significant source of revenue for Saudi Arabia.
