Following the visit of a contingent of Nollywood stars to the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, to present him with the hosting rights of the 2023 edition of the Best of Nollywood Awards, the governor has declared war against film pirates in the state.
The visiting delegation, led by Seun Oloketuyi, Founder and Convener of BON Awards, included renowned movie stars such as Fred Amata, Yemi Blaq, Bimbo Thomas, and Kemi Adekomi.
Governor Adeleke expressed his appreciation for the choice of Osun State to host the 15th edition of the awards, highlighting his government’s understanding of the significance of the entertainment industry in Nigeria. He emphasized that there will be no safe haven for piracy and its perpetrators in Osun State.
The governor shared his personal connection to the entertainment industry: My nephew, Davido, and my son, B-Red, recently visited me and we got talking about the entertainment industry and BON Awards. My dream was always to have a solid policy on the entertainment industry because I lived and studied in the US for a long time, and I know the value of the industry.
Governor Adeleke also acknowledged the previous efforts of his late brother, Governor Isiaka Adeleke, in promoting the entertainment industry in Osun State. He expressed his eagerness to support the industry further, including the development of an entertainment village, and announced plans to improve road infrastructure in the state to enhance connectivity.
In his bid to fight piracy, Governor Adeleke firmly stated, I want to assure you that piracy in Osun State will not be tolerated. Anyone involved in it will be prosecuted and jailed accordingly because what they are doing is not fair.
Seun Oloketuyi, appreciating the governor’s commitment, emphasized the potential of the film industry in promoting Nigeria. He expressed his belief that the industry could be utilized as a marketing tool for the nation.
The upcoming 15th edition of the BON Awards, scheduled to take place on December 22 in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, will not only showcase various categories of awards but will also honor Adebayo Salami with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Oloketuyi commended Salami for his remarkable contributions to the industry and his influence on current actors and filmmakers.
Governor Adeleke assured that the BON Awards hosting in Osun State would be a spectacular event. By securing the hosting rights for this prestigious event and promising to combat film piracy, Osun State aims to further establish itself as a hub for the entertainment industry in Nigeria.
