Opposition parties in the Indian Parliament walked out during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech on Manipur, according to Union Minister Kiren Rijiju. Rijiju accused the opposition of not allowing the Parliament to function during the Monsoon session using the situation in Manipur as a pretext. While addressing reporters, Rijiju stated that when the Prime Minister spoke about Manipur and the entire northeastern region, the opposition staged a walkout. He added that all MPs from the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Northeast condemned the opposition’s actions and planned to write a letter to the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, RJD MP Manoj Jha criticized Prime Minister Modi’s speech, claiming that his comments on Manipur lasted only two to three minutes out of a 1.45-hour speech. Jha accused the Prime Minister of using the opportunity to mock, crack jokes, and make taunts, despite the tragedy and crime against humanity that had occurred in Manipur. Prime Minister Modi had assured the strictest punishment for those responsible for crimes against women in Manipur, emphasizing that both state and central governments were working to restore peace in the region.

The no-confidence motion brought by the opposition against the NDA government was defeated in the Lok Sabha through a comfortable voice vote. The motion’s three-day debate witnessed heated arguments between the ruling coalition and the opposition over various issues, including the violence in Manipur. The Prime Minister reassured the people of Manipur that the accused would face severe consequences, and he pledged to bring about peace in the region.
