Ten opposition parties in Manipur, led by the Congress, have urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to meet with them and intervene in the ongoing violence in the northeastern state. The former Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh, said that they have sought a meeting with the Prime Minister and are awaiting his response before he leaves on his foreign tour on June 20. Singh also questioned the Prime Minister’s silence on the issue, stating that the violence has been ongoing since May 3 and is hurting Manipur. In addition, Congress General Secretary, Jairam Ramesh, stated that the leaders of ten opposition parties have sent an email to the Prime Minister on June 10 for a meeting with them but have not received any response. Violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur has killed more than 100 people, and the state government has imposed a curfew in 11 districts and suspended internet services.
