Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale, has said that opposition parties in India lack a clear agenda and unity, making it impossible for them to defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Athawale claimed that since every opposition party has distinct principles and ideology, they cannot come together to form a united front against the incumbent government, which can only benefit Modi. Athawale also urged the Tamil Nadu government to address atrocities committed against Scheduled Caste members in the state and take necessary action to ensure their peaceful coexistence.

Furthermore, the Minister highlighted his ministry’s initiative, providing financial assistance to couples who opt for inter-caste marriages, as a way to contribute to building a casteless society. According to Athawale, there has been an increase in such marriages, which will eventually lead to a more equitable and fair society.

The statement by the Minister comes at a time when the opposition parties in India are trying to form alliances to counter the ruling BJP ahead of parliamentary elections in 2024. Athawale’s remarks about the opposition’s lack of a clear agenda and unity are expected to trigger a new debate within opposition parties and encourage them to form a united front to challenge the ruling party.

Despite the opposition parties’ efforts to forge alliances and win over voters, the BJP and Modi remain popular among the masses. Many believe the economic policies and welfare schemes implemented by the government have benefited citizens and boosted the country’s growth. Thus, the prospects of the opposition parties defeating Modi and his party in the next election are not clear, as claimed by Athawale.

In conclusion, the statement made by the Union Minister highlights the political climate in India, with opposition parties struggling to unite and put forth a clear agenda to counter the BJP. Athawale’s remarks about the opposition’s disunity and lack of a clear agenda have sparked a new debate and may help the BJP in consolidating power. However, it remains to be seen if the opposition parties can overcome their differences and form a united front to challenge the ruling party in 2024.
