A delegation of opposition leaders is set to meet President Droupadi Murmu today to address the issue of a security breach in the Parliament. The leaders of the INDIA alliance will convene a meeting in Parliament tomorrow and request a meeting with the President. Additionally, the opposition parties are demanding Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement in both houses of Parliament.
Following the breach, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident. Two individuals had jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitor’s gallery, carrying colored smoke canisters. Birla praised the members of Parliament, security personnel, chamber staff, and marshals for their swift action in apprehending the perpetrators. He emphasized the seriousness of the incident and announced a comprehensive review of security measures in the House. Birla intends to strengthen security further through consultations with parliamentary leaders and members.
In a separate incident on the 22nd anniversary of the Parliament terror attack, two intruders entered the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitor gallery during Zero Hour. Congress MP Karti Chidambaram reported that the intruders released yellow gas from canisters and shouted slogans before being subdued by MPs.
Footage captured an unidentified man jumping from the visitor’s gallery of Lok Sabha, causing a brief commotion. The House was adjourned until 2 pm. Simultaneously, two individuals, including a woman, sprayed colored gas and chanted slogans outside the Parliament premises.
Congress MP Karti Chidambaram initially reported that two men with canisters had entered the House from the visitor’s gallery. The incident unfolded while MPs were addressing urgent public matters, with BJP MP Khagen Murmu raising his issue.
The opposition’s demand for a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah reflects the gravity of the security breach and the need for accountability.
