Ontario Lottery Pays Milton $2.5M and Raises $137M

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has recently made its first-quarter payment of $2,536,285 to the Town of Milton for hosting Elements Casino Mohawk from April 1 to June 30. This payment is part of the revenue-sharing program implemented by OLG, through which host communities receive financial support based on the gaming revenue generated at the hosted site.

Since the opening of Elements Casino Mohawk in August 1999, Milton has received a total of $137,672,255 in revenue-sharing payments from OLG. These funds have played a vital role in aiding economic recovery, infrastructure development, and job creation in the region.

OLG takes immense pride in distributing a portion of casino gaming proceeds to local communities, as part of their commitment to the province. In fact, the corporation reinvests 100 percent of its profits back into Ontario. Over the past eight years alone, casino service providers have invested more than $2 billion in private-sector capital across the province.

This extensive investment has resulted in the development and opening of seven new casinos, with one planned development in the pipeline. Additionally, various gaming expansions and non-gaming amenities have contributed to the significant economic growth experienced by the province.

The revenue-sharing program has proved to be highly beneficial for host communities since its inception in 1994. Collectively, these communities have received over $2 billion in non-tax gaming revenue. This substantial amount underlines the positive impact that casino gaming has on the communities it serves.

As a crown agency, OLG remains committed to creating a world-class gaming entertainment industry for the Province of Ontario, while also fulfilling its role in supporting local communities through the revenue-sharing program. The corporation aims to create a dynamic gaming sector that benefits all Ontarians.

The recent payment to Milton and the longstanding revenue-sharing model highlights the benefits of hosting a casino for communities. It not only generates substantial revenue but also drives economic growth, creates job opportunities, and fosters infrastructure development.

The impact of OLG’s revenue-sharing program extends far beyond Milton. Numerous other communities throughout Ontario have benefited from this model, with payments supporting a wide range of important initiatives and projects. The program has emerged as a vital source of funding for local development, providing communities with the means to enhance their economic and social well-being.

Overall, the partnerships between OLG and host communities have proven to be mutually beneficial, showcasing the positive effects of responsible gaming on both economic growth and community well-being. As OLG continues to strengthen its commitment to supporting local communities, the future looks promising for all Ontarians involved in the gaming industry.
