Thugs Beat Ondo Commissioner Over Bursary Award Disruption
Ondo State has been thrown into chaos as the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, continues to be incapacitated by ill-health, leaving the state without effective leadership. The governor has not set foot in his office for months, even after returning from a lengthy medical trip to Germany. Adding to the state’s woes, his deputy, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has been prevented from carrying out his duties while the state House of Assembly mounts efforts to impeach him, thus creating a leadership vacuum.
In a shocking turn of events, thugs recently stormed the premises of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), causing mayhem and disrupting the disbursement of bursary and scholarship awards intended for students. The chaotic scene was marked by gunshots fired into the air, preventing the ceremony from proceeding as planned. Staff members of the agency, as well as terrified students, desperately sought safety during the violent incident.
A staff member, who requested anonymity, revealed that the hoodlums arrived at the premises in hired vehicles, their intentions clear. The Commissioner of OSOPADEC was specifically targeted by the thugs, who accused him of being unworthy of membership in the commission due to his origins from a non-oil producing area. The Commissioner endured a vicious beating by the assailants, leaving him severely injured. Additionally, the vehicle in which he arrived was destroyed and vandalized by the unruly mob.
The Ondo State Police Command swiftly responded to the distress call and intervened to restore order and normalcy. Investigations into the incident have commenced, with the aim of identifying and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The assault on the Commissioner and the disruption of the bursary and scholarship award ceremony highlight the desperate need for stable leadership and the dire consequences of political instability. The people of Ondo State are now left grappling with uncertainty and fear as the state’s governance hangs by a thread.
It is imperative for authorities to swiftly address the power vacuum and prioritize the safety and security of all citizens. Only through strong leadership and decisive action can Ondo State hope to emerge from this tumultuous period and restore peace, harmony, and progress.
As the situation unfolds, citizens and observers alike eagerly await concrete steps towards stability and a return to effective governance in Ondo State. Whether the leadership vacuum will be promptly filled and justice served remains to be seen. In the meantime, the people must weather the storm and unite against the forces of lawlessness that threaten their wellbeing and future.
