Officials Suspended as Damoh Lake Burst Investigation Begins
The Pauri-Jaitgarh lake in Tendukheda, Madhya Pradesh recently burst due to heavy rainfall, causing extensive damages. In response, Divisional Commissioner Virendra Singh Rawat has set up a three-member committee to investigate the reasons behind the incident. Furthermore, two officials involved in the Water Resources Department have been suspended with immediate effect. Sub-Divisional Officer LK Twivedi and Sub-Engineer DK Asati faced disciplinary action based on the collector’s report. It was discovered during the inquiry that Twivedi and Asati, who were aware of the potential risks associated with the lake, failed to take action.
As a consequence of their negligence, the bursting lake caused severe flooding in several villages of the Damoh district, affecting the lives of over 15,000 individuals. The Pauri-Jaitgarh lake began overflowing on the night of July 24 and eventually burst the following morning.
