Odisha train accident prompts blood donation drive for injured in Balasore

Following a train accident in Balasore, Odisha on Friday, hundreds of people waited in line to donate blood for the injured. The incident claimed the lives of at least 233 people and left around 900 injured. The state government declared a day of mourning on Saturday. Rescue efforts have been underway since Friday, with more army personnel being sent from Kolkata. Around 200 ambulances, including government and 108 fleet vehicles, have been deployed at the scene of the accident, along with Mobile Health Teams and a team of doctors. Forensic medicine specialists have also been mobilised for dead body disposal. The bodies have been handed over to kin with identity documents. The crash resulted in several coaches of the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express derailing near Bahanaga, Balasore, after it hit a goods train.
