The Odisha Special Task Force (STF) has arrested two drug peddlers and seized over 106 kg of ganja and a car. Police identified the accused as Jugal Nayak (29 years old) and Ranjit Bhoi (24) during a raid conducted on Friday evening at Itamati. The STF Bhubaneshwar with the help of Nayagarh District Police conducted the raid based on an intelligence input.
The officers seized ganja weighing more than 106 kg, a car and other incriminating materials from the accused. To initiate legal action, the police have registered a case under section 20(b)(ii)(c)/29 of the NDPS Act 1985 at Itamati Police Station. The investigation is still going on.
Since the beginning of 2020, the STF has managed to seize more than 69 kg of brown sugar/heroin, 202-gram cocaine and more than 114 quintals of ganja/marijuana. Additionally, it has also confiscated 750 grams of opium and arrested 171 drug dealers/peddlers. The special drive against narcotic drugs in the state is still continuing.
The details of the accused and the confiscated items suggest that the Odisha authorities are actively taking steps to reduce the availability of illegal drugs in the state. In addition, they are investing resources to raise awareness and deter drug crimes. This is exemplified through the continuous drug drive in the state, which is aimed at eliminating drug trafficking.
