Odisha Government Declares Mourning, Cancels State Celebrations After Train Tragedy

In the wake of a tragic train derailment in Balasore, the Odisha government has declared a day of mourning on Saturday, with no state celebrations to be held. The derailment claimed the lives of over 200 passengers and injured 900 more. The Railways Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has ordered a high-level probe into the incident, while West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, is expected to visit the site later on Saturday. Several coaches of the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express were derailed after colliding with a goods train near Bahanaga station. Another train from Yeswanthpur to Howrah then collided with the derailed coaches, causing further damage. The investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing.
