Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik attended the India-Mongolia match at the Intercontinental Cup 2023 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Friday. He conveyed his best wishes to both teams during the line-up and assured the All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Kalyan Chaubey of full support for the development of football in the state. AIFF Secretary General Shaji Prabhakaran also graced the event, while the city of Bhubaneswar was abuzz with excitement as the Indian National Football team played in Odisha for the first time. India won the game 2-0, with Sahal Abdul Samad and Lallianzuala Chhangte scoring goals. Odisha has been investing in football development, with the FIFA Under 17 Women’s world cup being successfully organised in October 2022 and Kalinga Stadium being the host venue for various national-level tournaments and leagues, including ISL, IWL, and Super Cup. The National Youth teams ( Under 18 and 16 years) are based in Bhubaneswar with the support of the Odisha government.
