Odisha has been hit with heavy rains in the past 24 hours, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange warning to 13 districts in the state for the next 24 hours. The IMD said there could be heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places over 10 districts, with an even heavier downpour expected at some places in three districts. The rainfall is due to the formation of a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal. Temporary waterlogging is likely to occur in low-lying areas and underpasses, and poor visibility could cause traffic congestion in urban areas. The IMD has also asked people to avoid living in vulnerable kutchha houses, as there is a chance of wall collapse. Additionally, excess water from nursery beds needs to be drained, and mining activity should be regulated during heavy rain.
