Left-leaning news outlet, The New Republic, came under fire for a recent article about the missing Titanic sub. In the piece, the writer suggested that the CEO of OceanGate, Stockton Rush, who was onboard the sub, deserved to die in the tragedy because of his past donations to Republican candidates. The article’s writer, Daniel Strauss, drew criticism for attempting to politicize a tragic event, especially one with no political implications. Despite deletion of the article’s tweet, many felt it was a low and disgusting moment for those on the left who preach compassion and inclusivity. MSNBC legal commentator, Elie Mystal, added fuel to the fire with a flippant tweet about sending a conservative justice on a similar doomed trip. The comments and attitudes displayed by these left-wing figures set a dangerous precedent and show how far the political left has strayed from their message of unity and love.
