Nwankwo Kanu, the renowned Super Eagles legend, has officially assumed the role of Chairman for Enyimba International, the nine-time Nigerian champions based in Aba. The appointment was confirmed by the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, who also announced the appointments of John Obuh as Abia Warriors Chairman and Boniface Alozie Uche as Abia Comets Chairman.
Kanu, a native of Arochukwu Local Government Area in Abia State, is replacing Felix Anyansi Agwu, who had been the club’s chairman for an impressive 24 years. Under Anyansi’s leadership, Enyimba made a name for itself across the continent by becoming the first Nigerian club to win the prestigious CAF Champions League trophy in both 2003 and 2004. Additionally, they clinched the African Super Cup twice, in 2004 and 2005.
Enyimba’s domestic success is equally noteworthy, having secured a record-breaking nine Nigeria Premier Football League titles and four Federations Cup titles, among other notable achievements.
Kanu Nwankwo, a former Arsenal star, previously managed Papilo FC, which spent only one season in the Nigerian National League (NNL). The highly-decorated Nigerian player has also plied his trade at Iwuanyanwu Nationale, Ajax in Holland, Inter Milan in Italy, Arsenal, West Brom, and Portsmouth in England.
The transition in leadership marks an important milestone for Enyimba International as they embark on a new era under the guidance of Nwankwo Kanu. His wealth of experience in the football world and his undying passion for the sport positions him well to lead the club to further success both domestically and internationally.
Enyimba fans and football enthusiasts eagerly anticipate how Kanu’s tenure will unfold, as he takes charge of a team with an incredible track record and a dedicated fan base. The shift in leadership signals exciting times for Enyimba International and leaves football enthusiasts across Nigeria filled with anticipation.
