Persad Center’s Annual Art for Change 2023 Event to Support LGBTQ+ Mental Health Services

Pittsburgh-based Persad Center is gearing up for its highly anticipated 36th annual Art for Change 2023 event. Taking place on September 22 at Stage AE on the North Shore, the event aims to raise funds for Persad Center’s mission of providing mental health services to the LGBTQ+ community and individuals living with HIV/AIDS.

The event, known for its remarkable art auctions, will feature expanded galleries curated by renowned local and national artists. Artists like Anita Henley Carrington, Madeline Gent, Steve Mendelson, and Adam Milliron will display their works, creating an eclectic collection of pieces. Additionally, a memorial gallery will pay tribute to the late Wendi Miller, a trans woman who was an active Persad board member and supporter of the mission.

Mia Tarducci, this year’s Art for Change Committee Chair, has handpicked 50-75 additional art pieces to be juried into the main gallery section of the show. The live auction will showcase 8-12 select artworks from celebrated artists such as Baron Batch, Burton Morris, and Michael Lotenaro, among others.

Highlighting the importance of the LGBTQ+ community’s mental health, Marty Healey, Chief Executive Officer of Persad Center, stated, The artwork we’ve received is a testament to the important connection between the community, the arts, and mental health.

Persad Center’s give-back program, now in its second year, allows participating artists the option to receive a portion of the proceeds from the sale of their work. This initiative aims to support and reciprocate the longstanding support received from the regional art community.

Presented by UPMC and supported by PA Health & Wellness, PNC, FedEx, and Nemacolin, Art for Change 2023 promises to be an exceptional event that combines the power of art with the mission of providing mental health services to the LGBTQ+ community and individuals affected by HIV/AIDS.

Persad Center, founded in 1972, is the second-oldest LGBTQ+ behavioral services agency in the U.S. The organization plays a crucial role in improving the lives and well-being of the LGBTQ+ community and people living with HIV/AIDS through various services, including counseling, psychiatry, support groups, and teletherapy.

Tickets for the Art for Change 2023 event are available for purchase at www.PersadArtForChange.com. Don’t miss the opportunity to support a worthy cause while immersing yourself in a vibrant art experience.
