Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Kaziranga University (KU) and Institute of Frontier Science and Application (IFSA) to conduct a significant R&D initiative. The research project, titled ‘Assessment of Wind Energy Potential in North East India,’ aims to explore the possibility of using wind energy to meet the rising energy demand in the region.
As per the MoA, Kaziranga University, with technical collaboration from IFSA and funding from NRL, will carry out the project. The study will evaluate the wind energy potential in riverine environments across Assam using mobile Lidar observations for the next three years.
The agreement was signed between NRL’s Sr. CGM (CA) Nikunja Borthakur, KU’s Vice Chancellor Dr P K Mishra, and IFSA’s Chairman Dr P Goswami at NRL Corporate Office in Guwahati. NRL’s Director (Finance) Sanjay Choudhuri and senior officials from NRL and KU were also present during the signing ceremony.
The research initiative is expected to help increase India’s renewable energy output and reduce the country’s carbon footprint. The project will support the country’s efforts to achieve its goal of producing 450 GW of renewable energy by 2030.
NRL’s partnership with KU and IFSA is a significant step towards the adoption of renewable energy, particularly wind power, in India. The research will provide valuable insights into potential areas for wind energy installation and contribute to the development of bankable assessments for wind energy projects.
By leveraging cutting-edge technology and expertise from KU and IFSA, NRL is committed to developing sustainable solutions that meet the energy demands of India and protect the environment. This project is just one of many NRL’s innovative initiatives aimed at enhancing India’s renewable energy landscape.
