Vijayawada: NTR District Collector S Dilli Rao Commits to Resolving Transgender Issues
NTR District Collector S Dilli Rao has pledged to address the challenges faced by transgender individuals in the district. In pursuit of this commitment, a meeting was organized by the collector on Saturday as part of the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Practices (SVEEP) at the Collectorate.
During the meeting, the collector emphasized the district administration’s efforts in raising awareness among the transgender community about their participation in elections and exercising their right to vote. He underscored the crucial role voting plays in upholding democracy and stressed that every individual who has reached the age of 18 must enroll their names and cast their votes.
Aware of the forthcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, the district administration is taking special measures to encourage voter registration. Shockingly, out of an estimated transgender population of 1,000 in Krishna district, only 147 have included their names in the voters’ list so far.
Advocates for the transgender community have hailed the collector’s initiative, recognizing it as a significant step towards addressing the issues faced by this marginalized group. This commitment from the district administration signifies a willingness to acknowledge and rectify the obstacles that hinder transgender individuals from fully participating in society.
Saroj, a transgender activist who attended the meeting, expressed her appreciation for the attention given to their concerns. She stated, We are grateful to the district administration for recognizing our voice and striving to find solutions. This acknowledgement gives us hope for a brighter future where we are treated as equals.
