NSUI Unveils Manifesto for DUSU Polls: Menstrual Leave, Violence-Free Campus, and More

New Delhi, September 16 – The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), affiliated with the Congress party, has released a 10-point manifesto for the upcoming Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) polls, scheduled for September 22. The manifesto addresses various issues faced by students and aims to bring about positive change on campus.

The NSUI manifesto focuses on key areas such as providing menstrual leave for students, ensuring a violence-free campus, establishing a Grievance Redressal Cell, opposing any fee hikes, advocating for hostels for all students, offering free metro passes, creating a round-the-clock library, setting up a railway reservation counter on the campus, improving the placement cell’s effectiveness, providing free WiFi, and enhancing infrastructure.

One of the major highlights of the manifesto is the proposal for 12 days of menstrual leave per semester. This initiative aims to acknowledge and support female students who face challenges during their menstrual cycle. By introducing this policy, NSUI aims to promote inclusivity and create a more supportive environment for female students.

In addition to menstrual leave, NSUI also emphasizes the importance of a violence-free campus. This includes addressing issues related to bullying, harassment, and any form of violence that may hinder the overall wellbeing and safety of students. The manifesto emphasizes the need for strict measures to curb such incidents and to create an atmosphere conducive to learning and personal growth.

Recognizing the significance of student grievances, the NSUI manifesto proposes a Grievance Redressal Cell to address complaints and concerns promptly and effectively. This initiative seeks to ensure transparency and accountability, allowing students to voice their grievances and seek timely resolutions.

Furthermore, the NSUI stands firm against any fee hikes, advocating for affordable education and making higher education accessible to all. The manifesto also aims to address the accommodation issue by striving for hostels that cater to all students, ensuring a comfortable and secure living environment on campus.

To facilitate ease of travel, the NSUI proposes free metro passes for students, allowing them to commute conveniently between their educational institutions and their residences. This initiative would alleviate financial burdens associated with transportation and promote a more accessible education system.

The manifesto also addresses the need for a library that functions round the clock, offering students ample opportunities to access academic resources and enhance their learning experience. Additionally, it proposes setting up a railway reservation counter on the campus, facilitating students’ travel arrangements and providing convenience for those planning trips during breaks.

Recognizing the importance of career prospects, the NSUI aims to establish an active placement cell that effectively bridges the gap between students and job opportunities. This initiative seeks to equip students with the necessary skills and guidance to secure desirable placements after graduation.

The manifesto further highlights the need for free WiFi on campus, ensuring that students have uninterrupted access to information and digital resources. Lastly, it emphasizes the importance of better infrastructure, acknowledging that well-equipped facilities are crucial in providing a conducive learning environment.

In the coming days, the NSUI will unveil a separate manifesto that specifically addresses the issues faced by female students at Delhi University. This reflects the party’s commitment to addressing the unique challenges and concerns of female students and creating an inclusive and empowering atmosphere for their education.

The NSUI’s manifesto for the DUSU polls encompasses a wide range of student-centric initiatives. By prioritizing key areas such as menstrual leave, violence prevention, grievance redressal, affordable education, and improved facilities, the NSUI aims to enhance the overall student experience at Delhi University and pave the way for a brighter and more inclusive future.
