Novant Health, a leading healthcare provider, has announced its largest workforce reduction in eight years, with a total of 160 job cuts. The positions primarily affected are in management and administration. Although Novant did not disclose the exact number of job cuts in the Triad region, employees have reported that service-line vice presidents and mid- to upper-level administrators have been affected.
Novant explained that these changes are part of an organizational redesign plan aimed at prioritizing direct patient care, improving operational efficiency, and reimagining their approach to serving patients. The company assured that despite the job cuts, it remains committed to delivering high-quality and safe care to its patients and communities.
Novant currently employs around 36,000 people, with approximately 8,145 in Forsyth County alone. The company operates major hubs in Charlotte and Wilmington and recently acquired Pender Medical Center in Burgaw. In the second quarter of this year, Novant reported total operating revenue of over $1.9 billion, a year-over-year increase of 7.5%. However, expenses also rose by 7.7% to $1.93 billion, with salaries and employee benefits accounting for a significant portion of the increase.
This reduction in workforce marks the first significant job cut for Novant since 2015. In 2012, the company eliminated 150 positions in the Triad as part of a larger restructuring effort. Despite these challenges, Novant remains dedicated to providing excellent healthcare services and supporting affected employees during this transition period.
