The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall across all the Northeast states in the coming days. The IMD has issued yellow alert for all Northeast states between June 8 and June 12. The weather department informed that monsoon onset over Kerala on June 8 will likely advance into some parts of Northeast in the next 48 hours.
IMD stated in its report that Under its influence fairly widespread/widespread rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy rainfall/ thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds is very likely to occur over the Northeast region during the next five days.
The rainfall could cause flooding in many parts of the region. The Northeastern region is frequented by landslides and massive waterlogging during each monsoon. The situation could lead to disruptions in travel, communication and other essential services.
It is advisable for people residing in affected regions to stay alert and take necessary precautions. People in low-lying areas should be prepared to evacuate whenever necessary.
The IMD forecast is particularly significant for the farmers in the region, as they were urged to start their farming activities early this year. The prediction of favourable monsoon conditions was expected to boost agricultural productivity, but the changing weather patterns could have a significant impact on the crops.
Further forecast updates could surface in the upcoming days in line with the changing weather conditions. It is crucial to keep an eye on the latest alerts and warnings issued in your area by the IMD and local authorities.
