In a recent national awards ceremony, Jobana Semones, 30, was revealed as a finalist in the prestigious individual categories of Executive Leadership, Community Impact, and Rising Stars. Semones was nominated by Piedmont Advantage Credit Union for her instrumental role in the launch of their first comprehensive youth program, slated to begin in 2022. This innovative initiative offers age-appropriate financial education activities, alongside industry-recognized products and services, tailored to young individuals. Piedmont Advantage youth members will have access to their funds with built-in rewards, safeguards, and additional benefits, positioning them for financial success from an early age.
Dion Williams, President & CEO of Piedmont Advantage, expressed admiration for Semones’ efforts, stating, Prior to the roll out of the program in August 2022, Jobana unveiled the program to the board of directors, which garnered an applause and their immediate support. She conducted all of the internal training for all staff members so that everyone was informed and excited about this new venture.
Semones played a pivotal role in designing the organization’s youth financial learning series, MoneyY-ZER, aimed at empowering children and teens in grades K-12 with the knowledge and skills necessary for financial independence. Through this program, participants learn essential financial practices such as saving, budgeting, managing, and investing money. Additionally, they gain knowledge on how to avoid frauds, scams, and predatory lending practices.
As a certified credit union financial counselor, Semones leads various financial activities and can deliver presentations in Spanish upon request, ensuring inclusivity for all members. Her expertise allows her to provide comprehensive guidance to individuals seeking financial advice and support.
