According to the security adviser to the Manipur state government, Kuldiep Singh, there have been no incidents of violence in the last 24 hours, and the state is now completely peaceful. In response to an appeal from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, over 140 arms and ammunition were surrendered on Friday, with an additional 35 surrendered on Saturday. A total of 88 bombs were recovered in Manipur. Singh said that the CRPF and the Army have been patrolling in the buffer zones between Manipur’s valleys and hills and that peace prevails in those areas. Furthermore, curfew has been lifted in most places for 12 hours, and life is slowly returning to normal. The Union Home Minister visited the state for four days last week and met with all segments of society. It is crucial to note that ethnic violence broke out in Manipur after a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organized in the hill districts on May 3 to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
