The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) denied Congress’ claims that thousands of Indians cancelled their train tickets after the fatal train accident in Odisha, calling it factually incorrect. In a tweet, IRCTC stated that cancellations have actually gone down from 7.7 Lakh on 1st June to 7.5 Lakh on 3rd June. Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das claimed that the accident had made people feel unsafe to travel on trains and therefore resulted in ticket cancellations. The accident, which involved Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Coromandel Express, and a goods train, left at least 275 dead and over 1,000 injured in Odisha’s Balasore on Friday. The restoration work at the accident site has now been completed for the regular movement of trains.
