A coach of the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive express train caught fire at Kannur railway station in Kerala in the early hours of Thursday. No casualties were reported. Police suspect that an electric short circuit caused by an attempted act of sabotage led to the blaze. Footage from CCTV cameras shows a person approaching the train with a can. The Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited plant was situated 100 metres from the station and police obtained visual evidence from the offices. The fire began at 1.15am and was extinguished by four fire engines around two hours later. Palakkad Railway ADRM Sakeer Hussain stated that only after an examination by forensic experts could the real cause be determined.
