The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of barring its polling agents from Saturday’s Ebonyi South by-election. The party alleges that they do not have a single agent in any of the polling units across the senatorial district. The state NNPP chairman had uploaded the agent list on the INEC system for accreditation and distribution of identification materials but was informed that there were no identification cards for the party. The NNPP claims to have been disfranchised from participating in the election and vows to continue protesting the situation. INEC, however, denies the allegations, stating that the uploading of the party agents’ list was not done in the states but at the INEC headquarters in Abuja. They suggest that the NNPP should address the issue with their national leadership. The by-election was necessitated by the resignation of Sen. David Umahi, who took up an appointment as the Minister of Works. Keywords: NNPP, accuses INEC, barring agents, Ebonyi by-election
