Jitan Ram Manjhi, the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) chief, has officially withdrawn his party’s support from the Mahagathbandhan in Bihar. On Monday, Manjhi met with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar in Raj Bhawan to submit an official letter withdrawing support from his four MLAs.
Manjhi had previously supported the Mahagathbandhan, but his relationship with Nitish Kumar soured after the latter put pressure on Manjhi’s son, Santosh Kumar, to merge his party with JD-U or leave the alliance. Santosh Kumar chose to leave, and since then, Manjhi has distanced himself from the ruling party.
When asked about his recent trip to Delhi, Manjhi stated that he also plans to meet with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, BSP chief Mayawati, and others, and that he will be staying in Delhi for 3-4 days with his son to meet with various leaders.
Santosh Kumar Suman, the national president of HAM-S, has announced that We held the national executive committee meeting and we have all the options open for it. We will set out issues in the next three to four days, then announce our party’s approach publicly.
This move by Manjhi is seen as a significant blow to the Mahagathbandhan, which had relied on Manjhi’s support to maintain its stability and power in Bihar. It remains to be seen how this withdrawal will impact the political landscape in Bihar in the coming months.
