Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar slammed the Centre for constructing the new Parliament building and said that it would have been better to preserve the historic building. On Saturday, he addressed reporters in Patna and said, “What was the need for a new Parliament? The earlier building was a historic one. I have repeatedly said that the people in power will change the history of this country.”
On May 28th 2023, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the new Parliament building, which is part of the Central Vista redevelopment project. One of the highlights of the event will be the installation of a historical golden sceptre, called Sengol, near the Speaker’s seat. Sengol is a symbol of India’s independence and sovereignty, along with its cultural heritage and diversity.
Additionally, Nitish Kumar also stated that he won’t attend the NITI Aayog meeting held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday and the inauguration of the new Parliament building on Sunday. The NITI Aayog 8th governing council meeting will be held on the ‘Viksit Bharat @2047: Role of Team India’ theme at the new Convention Centre in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
Topics such as health, skill development, women empowerment and infrastructure development will be discussed on the day of the meeting with an aim to make India a developed nation by 2047. However, Kerala’s CM Pinarayi Vijayan and Rajasthan’s CM Ashok Gehlot won’t be attending this meeting along with other CMs from Delhi, Punjab, Telangana, and West Bengal.
NITI Aayog is an institutional framwork established by the Government in 2015 to achieve Sustainable Development Goals and ensure better development outcomes. It formulates strategies and policy initiatives and works with various stakeholders for the development of the country. Headquartered in Delhi, it brings the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers of the states together on one platform to promote cooperative federalism.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the Chairman of this organisation and provides guidance and to take infomative decisions. He will be joined by the Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, to inaugurate the new parliament building on the 28th of May, which is dedicated to the nation.
